wine tastings
Barbazzano is situated in the Chianti region, home to many fine wine varieties. Opportunities for wine tastings and tours abound. Here are some of our favorite vineyards:
LOCAL
Il Borro - Just a short ride from Barbazzano, Il Borro estate once belonged to the Savoy dynasty. In 1994 Ferruccio Ferragamo purchased and restored the villa and abandoned town. Il Borro is now home to artisan shops, charming dioramas depicting peasant life and the story of Pinocchio and a fine restaurant. Book a wine tasting and tour of the cellars and stay for lunch or dinner.
MONTEPULCIANO
Tenuta Valdipiatta - Located at the southern border of the Valdichiana, the winery is known for its production of Vino Nobile and many other fine varietals. A variety of tours and tastings are offered. Be sure to drive to nearby Montepulciano and explore this beautiful town.
CHIANTI CLASSICO
Brolio Castle (Barone Ricasoli) - Situated on a hilltop in the village of Gaiole, the castle and impeccably kept grounds are a destination in themselves. Stop at the cantina at the foot of the hill for a tasting or arrange for a private tour of the castle, tasting included.
Badia a Coltibuono - Also in Gaiole, this estate was originally an abbey and is owned by Lorenza de Medici. In addition to tasting the fine wines, consider staying for lunch at the wonderful restaurant, located in the refurbished stables.
BRUNELLO
Casato Prime Donne - Just a short drive from the beautiful hilltop town of Montalcino, the vintners and winemaker of the estate are all women. Tours and tastings are conducted daily and a light lunch is also offered.
*If you'd like to leave the driving to someone else, we recommend a car or bus hire with Italian Style.
